Minister and Deputy Minister visit Katiadi-Pakundia to inspect National Fisheries Week preparations

Today, Saturday, they visited the central opening ceremony venue of National Fisheries Week at Achmita George Institute Mini Stadium in Katiadi, Achmita Government Carp Hatchery Complex, and the fish fry release site in the old Brahmaputra river at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat area in Pakundia.

During the visit, the minister and deputy minister enquired about the overall preparations of the venue. They inspected the stage, guest seating arrangements, security, entry and exit routes, vehicle management, decoration of the venue, and preparations including the fish fry release site. At that time, they gave necessary instructions to concerned officials for the smooth and proper implementation of the scheduled programmes.

Tomorrow, 16 August, the central opening ceremony of National Fisheries Week-2026 will be held in Katiadi. On the same day, fish fry will be released into the old Brahmaputra river at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat area in Pakundia. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will be present as the chief guest at the central opening ceremony and will release fish fry.

At tomorrow's event, the best fisheries entrepreneurs and farmers selected at the national level will be honoured. In addition, various issues including the development of the country's fisheries sector, increasing production, sustainable management of fishery resources, safe fish production, and encouraging fish farmers will be highlighted.

Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Katiadi and Pakundia and the central celebration of National Fisheries Week, the local administration, Department of Fisheries and other concerned departments have taken coordinated preparations.

During the visit, Textiles and Jute Deputy Minister Md. Shariful Alam, Member of Parliament for Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) constituency Advocate Md. Jalal Uddin, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Delwar Hossain, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Md. Khaled Kanak, along with concerned officials of the ministry, Department of Fisheries, district administration, upazila administration and law enforcement agencies were present.
