Health Management Institute in Savar visited: Deputy Health Minister expresses anger over building lying unused for 4 years, orders speedy launch

On Saturday (August 15) noon, the Deputy Health Minister said these things while talking to journalists after visiting the Health Management Institute in Savar and later the Savar Upazila Hospital.

Deputy Minister Dr. Muhit said the government has taken an initiative to build 150-bed modern hospitals in 500 upazilas across the country. However, building infrastructure alone will not be enough; unless proper management and good governance are ensured, common people will not get the desired services. For this reason, doctors involved in managing health administration from the grassroots to the district level will be given modern training in 'Health Management' in phases.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the current condition of the institute during the visit, the Deputy Health Minister said, 'These beautiful buildings were built in 2022 with public money. Even after four years, they are not being used for any work. I have also seen clear signs of corruption, mismanagement and negligence there. I have seen the matter firsthand and we will take necessary measures very soon.'

He further said that this Health Management Institute in Savar is not only for local people; it will play a role in improving the government health system across the country. Civil surgeons from all 64 districts, divisional health officers and doctors in charge of upazila health complexes will receive training here.

Deputy Health Minister Dr. Muhit said ensuring good governance in the health sector is the main goal of the government. The government is working with the commitment to build a 'healthy Bangladesh' by improving the quality of services at the grassroots level.
