Nomination Papers of Mirza Fakhrul and Colonel Oli Valid in Presidential Election

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin made the announcement as the election authority after scrutinizing nomination papers at the Election Building in Agargaon in the capital. Colonel Oli's nomination paper was scrutinized at 11am and Mirza Fakhrul's around 12pm.

Last Thursday (August 13), BNP announced its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as a candidate for the 23rd President of Bangladesh. On the other hand, from the 11-party alliance, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Colonel Oli Ahmed was fielded as a candidate.

This time, a total of three nomination papers were submitted for the presidency — one from BNP and two from the 11-party alliance. Since one nomination of Colonel Oli was declared valid, the other was automatically invalidated.

Valid candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 4pm next August 18. If more than one candidate remains ultimately, voting will be held in the Parliament chamber from 2pm to 5pm on Thursday, August 20, in which Members of Parliament will vote.
