Tarique Rahman to visit India only if conditions including Hasina's return are met

Although communication between the two countries continues over preparations for a visit to Delhi this month at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the date has not been finalized yet.

In a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (August 16), spokesperson and Additional Foreign Secretary of the Public Diplomacy sub-division AKM Shahidul said that before Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to India, Dhaka has sent a message to Delhi with three conditions:

1. Extradition of Sheikh Hasina – the return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is fugitive in India
2. Extradition of the accused in the Osman Hadi murder case – handing over those involved in this killing
3. Creating a favourable environment for the extradition of other fugitive accused

The Foreign Secretary said Bangladesh is waiting for a favourable environment to be created for fulfilling these conditions. Once the conditions are met, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit India.
