Government's journey amid fragile economy, emphasis on sustainable development: State Minister for Local Government
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam has said that despite the country's fragile economy, the current government has taken responsibility and is moving forward with development activities.

He said these things while talking to journalists after inspecting beautification and waste removal activities on both sides of the highway at Bhanga Bridge area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar on Tuesday (18 August) morning.

The state minister said that in the last two decades the country did not achieve the expected level of development. The current government has taken over the country's responsibility amid such a fragile economic situation. Even so, under the prime minister's direction, various action plans are being implemented to ensure sustainable and balanced development at all levels of the country.

He said development activities are currently continuing consistently in various areas of the country. The government's leadership is sincere about ensuring balanced development, and various initiatives are being taken to utilise the development potential.

Regarding elections to the local government department, the state minister said that five important elections of the local government department are scheduled to be held within the current 2026.

He informed that a budget of about Tk 6,000 crore has been fixed to hold these elections fairly and impartially.

Besides, the state minister also said that initiatives are being taken to upgrade Savar's Aminbazar and Ashulia into municipalities to reduce long-standing suffering of local residents and simplify administrative services.

Alongside removing waste and filth accumulated for a long time on both sides of the historic Bhanga Bridge area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, beautification work is underway.

In the place of the removed waste, planting of various species of fruit and forest trees is also going on. According to the state minister, these activities are being implemented under the prime minister's direction.

During the inspection, officials of the local government department, Dhaka district administration officials, and concerned officials of Savar upazila administration were present.
