Grameenphone deposits Tk 24.60 crore to Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation fund

At an event held at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Dhaka, a delegation led by Grameenphone's Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Syeda Tahia Hossain handed over a cheque to Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Minister of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment. At that time, Md. Abdur Rahman Torofder, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, was present.

During the cheque handover, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said, "The contribution of workers to the country's economic development and industrial growth is undeniable. The government is committed to ensuring the overall welfare and safety of workers. The regular participation of leading companies like Grameenphone in the workers' welfare fund is highly commendable. This is not just respect for the law, but a unique example of responsible corporate behavior. I hope other domestic and foreign organisations will also come forward similarly for the social protection of workers."

Grameenphone's Chief Human Resources Officer Syeda Tahia Hossain said, "Being a responsible corporate citizen is an integral part of Grameenphone's overall operational process. Under the Bangladesh Labour Law, local and multinational companies deposit one-tenth of 5 percent of their profits into the workers' welfare fund at the end of the year. Since the start of its journey, Grameenphone, as a responsible corporate company and one of the top contributors to this fund, has deposited a total of Tk 329 crore 89 lakh 17 thousand 947 into the Workers' Welfare Foundation Fund up to the fiscal year 2024. And in fiscal year 2025, the company has deposited another Tk 24 crore 60 lakh 87 thousand 565 into the fund.

At that time, among the Grameenphone representatives present were Mohammad Aulad Hossain, Head of Industrial Relations and Culture; Mohammad Khaled Mridha, Head of Compensation, Benefits and Analytics; Muhammad Taohidul Islam, Senior Industrial Relations Expert; and Md. Harun-or-Rashid, Industrial Relations Expert.
