Despite having no prior experience in the banking sector, her direct appointment to the AVP post has raised questions among the bank's officials and concerned circles. The appointment has sparked discussion especially while the bank's financial situation is weak and promotions of many officials remain stalled.
Toma Mirza studied law at Manarat International University. According to her, she has been associated with the acting world for about 16 years. However, she has no prior experience in the banking sector.
Meanwhile, AB Bank, which is in financial trouble, incurred a net loss of around Tk 3,889 crore in 2025. In the first six months of 2026, the bank's earnings per share (EPS) was negative Tk 21.62 and net asset value (NAV) per share was negative Tk 57.85.
Besides, as of 2025, the bank had a provision shortfall of about Tk 566.51 crore. The bank's outlook has also been kept 'Negative' in credit rating.
In such a financial reality, Toma Mirza's direct appointment to the AVP post has raised fresh questions about the bank's recruitment and human resource management.
