Among the 11 affected, 10 underwent cesarean and one underwent gallbladder surgery. Several of them are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Hospital managing director Masud Rana said that about four months ago, tuberculosis was detected in one patient after a hernia operation. It is suspected that the germs may have spread through that patient. He also said that after learning of the matter, the operation theatre was sterilized.
Meanwhile, following the allegations, the upazila health department has issued a show-cause notice to the hospital authorities. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident, headed by Resident Medical Officer Dr. Ashikur Rahman. The committee has been asked to submit a report within seven days.
