Solar panels will gradually be installed on roofs of government offices: Mir Shah Alam

He said this during two separate meetings held at the ministry's conference room on Tuesday (August 25).

The State Minister said the use of solar power will also be expanded in phases at government offices at district, upazila, municipality and union levels. This will reduce electricity costs of government institutions as well as increase the use of renewable energy.

Net metering and hybrid systems are being considered for installing solar panels. Through this, there will be opportunities to supply excess electricity to the national grid and to use solar power after evening as needed.

He further said that the technical expertise of the private sector will be utilised in this initiative. There are also efforts to take technical assistance and sign memorandums of understanding in coordination with Walton, PRAN-RFL and Grameen Shakti.

The meeting was informed that two committees have already worked on assessing the feasibility of installing solar panels on the rooftops of government buildings. They have identified suitable rooftops, probable costs and implementation challenges.
