The US State Department said the training has been organized to make the evaluation of visa applicants more effective and consistent. In particular, officials will be trained to identify applicants who may become dependent on US government public welfare benefits.
Meanwhile, various embassies and consulates have informed immigrant visa applicants by email about rescheduling their scheduled interviews. New dates will be announced later.
However, the US State Department has not yet specified how long visa appointments will remain suspended.
