Nazrul, the poet of rebellion, humanity and equality, left an outstanding contribution to Bengali literature and music. His creations in poetry, songs, ghazals, hamd-naat, plays and various branches of literature still awaken the spirit of equality, humanity and liberation among people.

Today is the 50th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam
On 24 May 1972, the poet was brought to Bangladesh from India with his family. Later, the Bangladesh government gave him the status of National Poet and citizenship. In 1976, he was awarded the Ekushey Padak.
On the occasion of the death anniversary, Nazrul Institute, Nazrul Academy, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and various other organisations have arranged discussions, milad mahfil and cultural programmes.
