Fish traders said fishermen have been catching more hilsa from the rivers over the past week, resulting in increased supplies at wholesale markets and local bazaars. The lower prices have also attracted more buyers.
A visit to several markets in Bhola found that 1kg hilsa is selling for around Tk 2,800 per kg, medium-sized fish for approximately Tk 2,500 per kg, and smaller hilsa for Tk 1,500 to Tk 1,800 per kg.
However, consumers said prices have not fallen as much as expected despite the increase in supply. They also alleged that some traders are still selling hilsa at previous prices.

According to consumer representatives, hilsa remains beyond the reach of many low- and middle-income families despite the recent price decline. They said prices could become more affordable if supply increases further and regular market monitoring is strengthened.
Bhola Agricultural Marketing Officer Mostafa Sohel said regular drives are being conducted to control the prices of fish and other essential commodities. Action will be taken against traders if evidence of overcharging is found, he added.
