Death toll from mountain landslides in Nepal rises to 469, hundreds of tourists missing
The death toll from sudden floods and devastating landslides in Nepal has risen to 469. Hundreds of people are still missing. Among the missing are local and foreign tourists and trekkers.

On Friday (August 28), NBP News reported this information citing Nepali media Kathmandu Post. On Wednesday, devastating mountain landslides in Rasuwa and surrounding areas of northern Nepal caused massive water currents and debris to flow into the Kosi and Trishuli rivers in the early morning. This has severely damaged houses, roads, bridges and various infrastructure.

The Nepali Army, police and Armed Police Force have been deployed in rescue operations. Helicopters are being used to reach remote and cut-off areas. In addition, searches are being conducted along riverbanks and low-lying areas for survivors.

Rescue efforts have become difficult as communication systems and infrastructure were severely damaged in the disaster. As information on casualties and missing persons is still being collected from various areas, the full extent of the damage has not yet been ascertained.
