50-60 riverbank families in panic as Madhumati erodes
Residents of the riverbank are spending days in fear due to erosion of the Madhumati River in Longkarchar Nichupara area under Ghoshpur union of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur. Locals say nearly two acres of land has been devoured by the river over the years. Homesteads and remaining croplands are also at risk.

Locals allege that erosion is intensifying due to unplanned sand extraction from the river. The affected families have demanded immediate construction of embankments and permanent river erosion prevention measures. The upazila administration said that if erosion increases, necessary steps will be taken in coordination with those concerned.
