Salt workers in Kutubdia not getting fair wages despite backbreaking labor

Workers allege that their wages have not increased significantly even in the past several years. Meanwhile, the price of salt has increased and daily expenses have also risen. With less work at many ghats, regular income is not assured either.

The workers have demanded an increase of at least 10 taka per sack for carrying salt. Local public representatives say that during the monsoon season, the number of workers increases while salt transport decreases, creating wage disparity.
