There is no fertilizer crisis in the country, action will be taken if artificial crisis is created: Agriculture Minister

He said this on Saturday at a views-exchange meeting with onion and jute farmers in Faridpur Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium.

The agriculture minister said, about 15 lakh tonnes more fertilizer is imported than the country's demand, and the same amount remains as safety stock. Even then, allegations have been received that some retailers are saying there is no fertilizer and selling at higher prices. Strict action will be taken against such irregularities.

He further said, the government aims to reduce import dependence on agricultural products and increase domestic production. Along with achieving self-sufficiency in essential agricultural products including jute, onion, green chilli, ginger and garlic, the government is also working with the goal of exporting agricultural products in the future.
