She made these remarks in response to questions from journalists after attending an event at Dhankora Girish Chandra High School in Saturia upazila, Manikganj, on Saturday (August 29).
The food minister said ensuring food security and safe food is one of the government's top priorities. Storage and management of food grains in all food warehouses across the country will be strictly monitored. Irregularities have already been detected at a food warehouse in Ghior, Manikganj, and legal action has been taken against those involved.
Saying there is sufficient food stock in the country, she said adequate reserves and supply systems are being monitored to keep food supply normal during disasters or crises.
Regarding the fertilizer crisis, Afroza Khanam Rita said there is currently no fertilizer crisis in the country. However, there may be coordination gaps in distribution in some places. During the current transplanted aman season, farmers will be ensured supply of necessary fertilizer and agricultural inputs.
Regarding the second Padma Bridge, she informed that preliminary activities and surveys have begun for constructing a Y-pattern bridge on the Paturia-Daulatdia and Kazirhat water routes. Details will be provided soon.
