He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the rehabilitation assistance project for flood-affected families at the Chattogram Circuit House auditorium on Sunday morning.

Private sector joining in rehabilitating flood victims: Finance Minister
The finance minister said it is difficult for the government alone to distribute all assistance properly. This creates opportunities for corruption and wastage. If the private sector and NGOs are involved in the distribution system, efficiency increases as well as wastage and corruption can be reduced.
He said assistance is being delivered to people through various effective methods, including family cards. Partnerships with organizations including BRAC are important in this regard. Unless actual rehabilitation is ensured, effective assistance for affected people cannot be guaranteed.

Due to heavy rainfall in the first and second weeks of last July, severe floods occurred in 10 districts including Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari. About 866,000 people were affected.
The project is being implemented under BRAC's disaster risk management programme with funding from HSBC Bank. The project, starting from 26 July 2026, will continue until 25 February 2027. Various rehabilitation activities will be carried out in Banshkhali, Satkania, Ward No. 38 of Chattogram City Corporation, and Chakoria in Cox's Bazar.
Under the project, 400 families will be provided with latrine construction, 30 tube-wells rehabilitated, 250 families with house repairs, 300 families with livelihood support, and 600 families with agricultural materials. In addition, 50 schools will be rehabilitated and 10,000 students will receive educational materials. 300 awareness sessions will be organized on disaster risk reduction and health hygiene.
The event was attended by Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahidul Islam Mia, President of Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry Amirul Haque Chowdhury, and CDA Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, along with senior officials.
