He said these things while presiding over a meeting on e-rickshaw management held in the meeting room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat on Sunday (August 30).

Government formulating policy for e-rickshaw management: State Minister for Local Government
The meeting discussed various issues including movement and control of e-rickshaws, registration, fitness tests and certification, garage and charging management, discipline in urban traffic, and use of renewable energy. Relevant stakeholders presented their opinions and recommendations.
The State Minister said, 'People must not be subjected to any hardship in any way.' If the policy can be implemented properly and effectively, it will be possible to control traffic congestion in the city, ensure discipline in traffic movement and road safety.

He said if systematic licensing and registration is introduced through local government, it will increase government revenue along with establishing discipline in e-rickshaw management. At the same time, fitness, charging and other technical issues can be brought under an organized framework.
Mir Shah Alam said arrangements would also be made to carry out fitness tests and provide certification for existing e-rickshaws.
He informed that the draft rules related to e-rickshaw management would be sent to the Law Ministry for vetting. He expressed optimism that the rules would be formulated and necessary activities completed within the shortest possible time.
At the meeting, Dr. Mohammad Ehsan, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Dr. Md. Hadiuzzaman, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, gave expert opinions.
Besides, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam, Secretary of Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Md. Khaybur Rahman, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md. Anisur Rahman, and senior officials of relevant ministries and city corporations were present at the meeting.
