The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Sunday (August 30) under the Khoyran bridge of Gaznar Bill in Manikhat union of the upazila. The injured Amin Uddin is the son of the late Ahed Ali of Bhaina village. He has been serving as chairman of the union parishad for two consecutive terms.
Family and local sources said that Chairman Amin Uddin was sitting and chatting with a person under the Khoyran bridge of Gaznar Bill in the evening. At that time, 10 to 12 masked youths arrived there on motorcycles and attacked him. They hacked him with sharp weapons in different parts of his body.
Hearing the chairman's screams, locals rushed forward and the attackers fled. The locals rescued him and took him to Pabna General Hospital. When his condition deteriorated there, doctors sent him to Dhaka. However, it is still not known who carried out the attack and why.
Locals said Chairman Amin Uddin lives a simple life and is also involved in farming. The attack on him has caused anger in the area.
Sujanagar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Sadik Ahmed said, 'Treating the injured chairman and restoring him to health is the priority now. Police are conducting raids in connection with the incident. After the raids, the matter will be examined and legal action will be taken.'
