Dhaur-Ashulia two service bridges opened, communication and economy will gain pace: Sheikh Rabiul Alam
Two service bridges of Dhaur-Ashulia, constructed under the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project, have been opened for vehicular movement. Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam MP inaugurated the bridges on Wednesday morning at a ceremony held at Dhaur Bridge.

The two separate two-lane bridges, stretching 3.71 kilometers from Dhaur Mor to Ashulia, will remain toll-free. One will carry traffic from Dhaur to Ashulia, and the other will carry vehicles from Ashulia to Dhaur.

At the inaugural ceremony, Sheikh Rabiul Alam said the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway will play a vital role in speeding up communication between the capital and the northwestern region, as well as reducing traffic congestion. Around 65 to 70 percent of the project’s work has already been completed, and the aim is to finish a larger portion by next December.

The minister said that although utility shifting was a major challenge in implementing the project, it was completed quickly through coordinated efforts. Emphasis is being placed on keeping every project expenditure rational and waste-free to ensure the greatest benefit of public money.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridge Division and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, said the two bridges were built maintaining technical standards while keeping the navigability and water flow of the Turag River intact. There is also a plan to complete the remaining work within the stipulated time.

Those concerned expect that once the entire project is implemented, traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Ashulia corridor will decrease, and the movement of goods and people to and from the surrounding industrial areas will become faster and smoother.
