Mahmud Sohel receives 'Greenman Award' in environmental journalism

He was honored at a discussion meeting and reception organized on the occasion of the founding anniversary of Green Movement at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of the National Press Club in the capital on Wednesday (2 September).

The event, titled 'What should be done to ensure the use of renewable energy to resolve the power crisis', was presided over by Green Movement founder and chairman Bappy Sardar. The chief guest was Professor Dr. Md. Kamrul Ahsan, vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University.

At the event, seven institutions and distinguished citizens were given the 'Greenman–2026' honor for their special contributions to creating environmental awareness. Mahmud Sohel received the award in recognition of his contribution to raising public awareness on environment and climate issues in the media.

In a journalism career of nearly 23 years, Mahmud Sohel began journalism with campus reporting from Dhaka University. He has worked in various media including radio, television, newspapers and online. Currently, he is serving as news editor of GTV and information technology and training editor of DRU. Besides, he is also serving as convener of Jashore Journalists' Forum in Dhaka.

In addition to environmental journalism, Mahmud Sohel has long been working on public-interest and investigative reports. According to his colleagues, he has maintained the position of objective and courageous journalism amid various professional challenges.
