BNP leader Adam Ali, main accused in Toma murder case, shot dead in Atgharia

The incident took place around 3:30 pm on Monday (September 7) in the Chandipasha area of the upazila. The deceased, Adam Ali, was the son of late Nurul Islam of Satgachha village and a former UP member.

Atgharia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque said that while returning home from Ekdanta haat by motorcycle, miscreants intercepted Adam Ali in the Chandipasha area. They first shot him. Later, he was seriously injured by being hacked with sharp weapons. At one stage, he ran and fell in front of a local resident's house. He died there.

On receiving the information, police went to the spot and recovered the body. Preparations are underway to send the body to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy.

According to local and case sources, on December 24, 2024, police recovered the body of Toma Khatun of Satgachha village with a gamcha wrapped around her neck. The next day, Toma's father Nayeb Ali filed a murder case at Atgharia Police Station. In that case, Adam Ali was named the main accused.

After the investigation, a charge sheet was submitted to the court on December 31, 2025. Adam Ali was kept as the main accused in it. Earlier, on December 28, 2024, law enforcement agencies arrested him in a joint operation from the Ashekpur Bypass area of Tangail.

Locals allege that after being released on bail from jail and returning to the area, Adam Ali had been threatening witnesses to withdraw the case. Due to his threats, Toma's father Nayeb Ali had been fleeing his home, locals claimed.
