Build new Bangladesh by staying united under Tareq Rahman's leadership: Water Resources Minister

He said this in his speech as chief guest at the sixth-day programme of the Zia Smriti Book Fair-2026, organised by Zia Smriti Pathagar at the Bangla Academy premises on the occasion of BNP's 48th founding anniversary on Tuesday.

The water resources minister said, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was the dreamer of modern Bangladesh and Khaleda Zia was the architect of development. Everyone must be united under the leadership of Tareq Rahman to implement their dreams and unfinished work.

Highlighting Ziaur Rahman's political and state role, he said Bangladesh's identity and image in the international arena had increased during his time. He commented that the initiative to form SAARC to build cordial relations among South Asian countries was also part of his dream.

Annie Chowdhury further said, indecent and obscene language in politics is not desirable. He also raised questions about the purpose of programmes like a long march by the opposition party after six months.

He said it is necessary to examine whether there is any connection between the anti-government movement and the plan of the 'fascist government head' to return to the country in December.

The programme was presided over by ANM Saiful Islam, joint convener of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP. Selimuzzaman Selim, member of parliament from Gopalganj-1 constituency, Independence Award and Ekushey Padak-winning Professor Dr Sukomal Barua, BNP National Executive Committee member Fazlur Rahman Khokan and others spoke at the programme.
