Bidisha released on bail from jail

She was released from jail at 5:12 pm on Tuesday. After the necessary bail documents reached the jail and were verified, she was released according to rules, said Senior Jail Superintendent Nazrul Islam, additional duty officer of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail.

According to the case documents, businessman Mosharraf Hossain filed a case with Gulshan police station on February 7, 2008, alleging fraud and embezzlement over the purchase and sale of a flat. The complaint stated that he had an agreement of Tk 80 lakh with Bidisha regarding the sale of a flat at President Park in Baridhara.

After a long judicial process, on May 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam sentenced Bidisha to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Tk 10,000. She was also ordered to serve an additional one month of simple imprisonment in default of payment of the fine.

As she was not present in court when the verdict was announced, a sentence and arrest warrant was issued against Bidisha. Later, on the night of August 25, she was arrested from Gulshan in the capital. The next day, when she was produced before the court, her bail plea was rejected and she was sent to jail.

Bidisha then filed a bail petition with the High Court. After hearing, the High Court granted her bail on September 6. After verifying the documents of that order, she was released from Kashimpur Women's Central Jail on Tuesday afternoon.
