110,364 farmers to receive farmer card incentives at pilot stage

He disclosed this while briefing journalists after inspecting the Government Pilot School field in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni on Saturday. He also said preparations are underway for the Prime Minister's inauguration ceremony on September 17.

The minister said that on the opening day, 7,643 farmers in Feni district will receive printed farmer cards. The program will be gradually expanded to every upazila, union, and block level in the country. There are plans to bring more than 20 million genuine farmers under the card within the stipulated time.

Noting that there is no scope for any kind of discrimination in providing farmer cards, he said marginal, small, landless, medium and large—genuine farmers of all categories will get this facility. Through the cards, government assistance including fertilizer and seeds will be delivered to farmers in a more orderly and transparent manner.

Regarding irregularities over fertilizer, the minister said there is currently no fertilizer crisis in the country. If anyone tries to harass farmers or sell fertilizer at excessive prices by creating an artificial crisis, strict action will be taken. He also said several teams are working to investigate allegations of fertilizer stockpiling outside dealer premises.

On agricultural development in char areas, the minister said the government is giving importance to expanding modern and production-oriented agriculture in these areas. There are plans to ensure necessary technology and support for producing promising agricultural products, including short-duration winter crops.

At that time, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Abdur Rahim and Deputy Commissioner of Feni Mohammad Mahbubul Karim were present.
