He made the call in a post on his Facebook account on Monday (September 14).

In the Facebook post, Nasiruddin Patwary writes, ‘A person spends all day in the sun, sweats, and earns 500 taka. With this money, he buys milk for his child, school notebooks, and medicine for his elderly father. If an extortionist takes 200 to 300 taka from it, not only does the money go; one of the family’s needs also comes to a halt that day. To you and me, 500 taka may seem trivial. But to the person whose entire day’s sweat is worth this 500 taka, this money is equal to a thousand crore taka.’

He further writes, ‘Set up a shop, extortion. Do business, extortion. A vehicle runs, extortion. Build a house, extortion there too. And when political influence and power are shown with that money, the humiliation becomes deeper. And this money does not stop only at the bottom; shares also reach leaders at the top step by step. Extortion does not only take away money; it takes away people’s sweat, children’s future, and the right to live.’

At the end of the post, Nasiruddin Patwary writes, ‘Stand up against the new extortionists. Build anti-extortion social resistance in every area. The country will be saved only when a father can safely bring home his hard-earned 500 taka for his child.’
