Usually, various fish, including boal, rohu, parse and tangra, are sent to Bangladesh.
A large portion of the imported hilsa is coming from Gujarat. These fish consignments are being sent to Bangladesh through Bharuch port. At the same time, some hilsa is also going to Bangladesh from the wholesale market in Howrah.
According to traders, hilsa from Gujarat is relatively less popular in India's local markets. Because these fish have a higher amount of eggs and a somewhat salty taste, demand for them is limited in various regions of the country.
On the other hand, as there is demand for egg-bearing hilsa in some regions of Bangladesh, traders believe a new market has been created in the country for hilsa from Gujarat.
As a result, an exceptional situation has emerged in the hilsa trade this time—along with hilsa going from Bangladesh to India, hilsa is now also coming from India to Bangladesh.
