Call to increase international cooperation in sustainable infrastructure development

He made this call while participating in the opening session of the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference (GICIC) 2026 held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

Sheikh Rabiul Alam said, infrastructure development is one of the main foundations of economic growth, regional connectivity, social progress and improvement of people's quality of life. In this regard, not only financing but also a combination of modern technology, knowledge and technical skills is necessary. It is essential to increase mutual cooperation through exchange of experience and technology among countries.

The three-day conference is being held, organized by South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and managed by the International Contractors Association of Korea. This year's theme is ‘Cooperation on Global Infrastructure Projects Opened by AI’. Ministers, government officials, development institutions and representatives of the infrastructure sector from various countries are participating in it.

The minister said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh is committed to building an integrated, efficient, low-carbon and climate-resilient transport system. To this end, initiatives are being taken to implement important infrastructure projects through international partnership and financing.

He further said, Bangladesh is interested in increasing cooperation in the infrastructure sector through government-level cooperation with international partners including South Korea, foreign investment, concessional financing and public-private partnership. At the same time, the government wants to harness new possibilities through technology transfer, knowledge exchange and skills development.

It is expected that Bangladesh's participation in the conference will create new opportunities for investment, technology transfer, exchange of experience and joint project implementation in the infrastructure sector between Bangladesh and South Korea.
