Jamaat condemns cancellation of Channel One journalist's accreditation card

In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday, he said, media freedom is one of the main foundations of a democratic state. If an accreditation card is cancelled without any reason, it is a matter of concern for independent journalism and the right to freedom of expression.

He said, if the authorities disagree with any news or report, it should be redressed through existing law and due process. If a journalist's accreditation card is cancelled by exercising administrative power, it may create fear and uncertainty among journalists in performing their duties independently.

Jubayer said, Jamaat-e-Islami is in favor of upholding media freedom, the right to freedom of expression, civil liberties and democratic values. No situation should be created in which journalists and media workers are obstructed or feel frightened in performing their duties independently.

He said, the relevant authorities must play a responsible role in protecting people's right to information and journalists' professional freedom.

The Jamaat leader called on the government to reconsider the decision to cancel the accreditation card of the Channel One journalist and to resolve the matter through a transparent, impartial and lawful process.
