Current DU administration is surpassing even Awami-era policy: DUCSU GS

He said this to journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with the university administration regarding the DUCSU archive.

Recent controversy arose over the display of pictures and quotes of Pakistan's then Governor-General Muhammad Ali Jinnah's anti-Bengali-language speech in the context of the Language Movement at the DUCSU archive. Farhad criticized the statement issued by the university administration on the matter.

He said that in the history of the past 50 years, the university administration has not been seen issuing a statement in such language as ‘will be sternly resisted’—immediately after an incident. He claimed that the administration appeared to have copied verbatim a political party's statement and published it on its own page.

The DUCSU GS said that Jinnah's anti-Bengali-language speech is mentioned in history and various textbooks. Yet it is being said that action will be taken against DUCSU for displaying pictures and quotes of that speech.

Raising questions about the Vice-Chancellor's role as well, he said that before the inauguration of the DUCSU archive, the Vice-Chancellor visited it twice and saw the progress of the work. At that time, no objection was raised on the matter, but later a statement was issued on behalf of the administration in the context of a party's statement.

SM Farhad further said that during the eras of various past governments, the university administration did not immediately issue statements in such stern language. The current administration's stance is surpassing even that policy, which is highly condemnable.

At that time, alleging an attack on the DUCSU archive and vandalism of property, he demanded swift action against those involved.
