The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved three metrorail projects in the capital. The projects were approved at an ECNEC meeting held on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairman Tareq Rahman.
The approved projects are—Metrorail Line-5 Southern Route, Metrorail Line-1, and Metrorail Line-5 Northern Route. The total cost to implement the three projects will be about Tk 2.5 lakh crore.

Among them, the revised cost proposals for the MRT Line-1 (Airport–Kamalapur) and MRT Line-5 Northern (Hemayetpur–Bhatara) projects, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have been approved.

Besides, the new MRT Line-5 Southern (Gabtoli–Dasherkandi) project, under joint funding by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and South Korea, has also been approved.
