US Ambassador meets Information and Broadcasting Minister

During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated Andaliv Rahman on assuming charge as Information and Broadcasting Minister. The minister said the government is working to bring positive changes in political culture alongside governing the state. He also highlighted the commitment to maintaining freedom of expression and an environment for independent media.

The minister said necessary steps would be taken to tackle misinformation, disinformation and defamatory remarks on social media. In this regard, the US ambassador emphasized exchanging views with stakeholders. State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury also spoke about the need for effective initiatives and the use of artificial intelligence to prevent disinformation.

The ambassador said relations between Bangladesh and the United States are growing stronger and expanding in various sectors, including trade and commerce. He also mentioned the United States' continued assistance for the Rohingyas and cooperation in the health sector to prevent infectious diseases.

The Cyber Protection Act was also discussed. In this regard, the Information Minister said the government has no intention of controlling the media; necessary steps will be taken while upholding media freedom and the right to freedom of expression.
