Order to swiftly arrest those involved in SI Altaf killing

The minister gave this directive to the concerned police officers when members of the deceased's family went to meet him at the Secretariat on Thursday. At the same time, he assured the family of all-out cooperation to ensure a speedy trial.

The minister said that Tk 6 lakh in financial assistance has already been given to the deceased's family from the Police Headquarters Welfare Fund. He also said arrangements would be made for the necessary loan and assistance from Community Bank Bangladesh Limited to keep the family business running. In addition, he directed the concerned authorities to take steps to award Altaf Hossain ‘Police Medal (PPM)’ posthumously.

On the evening of September 5, SI Altaf was attacked while trying to settle a dispute over parking an auto-rickshaw in Bardeshi Paschimpara of Aminbazar, Savar. Later, when he took shelter at his elder son's business establishment, an attack was carried out there with local weapons. While trying to save him, his younger son Ariful Islam was also seriously injured.

Later, when locals took the two to the hospital, doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead. In this incident, his wife, Shiuli Parveen, filed a murder case as complainant against 15 people with Savar Model Police Station.

Altaf Hossain joined the police as a constable in 1986. During his long career, he served in DMP, Rangamati, RRF Rajshahi, RMP, and Barishal. From 2011 until his death, he was serving in SB.
