Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said this at a press briefing after a meeting of top leaders of the 11-party alliance at the Leader of the Opposition's official residence on Minto Road in the capital on Thursday.
The meeting discussed preparations for the Dhaka-Rangpur long march on September 19 with seven-point demands, the country's political situation, implementation of the referendum verdict, and the process of constitutional amendment. Golam Parwar said the 11-party alliance rejected efforts to amend the constitution ignoring the referendum verdict.
He further said that even with a majority, one should not go against the people's aspirations. Criticizing various government decisions, he said, ‘From here, we will call on the government to return.’
September 19 Dhaka-Rangpur Long March
Golam Parwar said that after an inaugural public meeting at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital between 7 am and 8 am on Saturday, the convoy will leave for Rangpur. On the way, five roadside meetings will be held in Gazipur, Tangail, Sirajganj, Bogura and Gaibandha. The program will end with a closing rally at Rangpur Zilla School ground.
He said the long march will be peaceful and free of violence. There is no plan for any disorder or vandalism. He sought cooperation from the administration, law enforcement agencies and all concerned to make the program successful.
At the press briefing, leaders of the alliance, including 11-party alliance coordinator Hamidur Rahman Azad, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmad, and Labour Party Chairman Mustafizur Rahman Iran, were present.
