Raihan’s leg was amputated after he was injured in a train accident

On June 11 this year, 12-year-old Raihan was in an accident on the Karnaphuli Express train while returning from the Airport area to Kamalapur. Police rescued him and admitted him to Kurmitola General Hospital. He was later treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Pangu Hospital. On July 2, one of his legs was amputated through surgery.

Police said that after the surgery, Raihan had to stay in the hospital for about a month and a half. During this time, the Department of Social Services assigned a caregiver to take care of him. After being released from the hospital, he took shelter at Kamalapur Railway Station and used to beg there.

According to police, several people, including his friend Zakir, helped Raihan return home. Railway Police Constable Riazul Karim and a woman named Mina at the station also assisted him. Police commented that presenting Mina as a criminal on social media was regrettable.

In a video that spread after the June 11 accident, Raihan can also be heard saying that he was injured after falling from the roof of the train. Marks of injuries on his head and stomach are also visible in the video.

Raihan is the son of Nazim Uddin of Satgarh Noapara area in Chunti Union of Lohagara Upazila in Chattogram. After he went missing from home about seven months ago, his father identified him at a local mahfil on September 13. After that, various allegations about the leg amputation spread on social media.

However, Raihan and his family members did not agree to comment on the matter. It has been learned that they are currently at the hospital.
