Putul to join Awami League Presidium, whose activities are banned
An initiative has been taken to include Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the Awami League's highest policy-making forum, the Presidium. Senior Awami League leaders said the process has begun as part of the party's organizational restructuring.

According to party leaders, the initiative to restructure the Awami League has been taken amid discussions about Sheikh Hasina's possible return to the country and future leadership. They said the process to make Putul a Presidium member may be finalized this September.

A meeting of the Central Executive Committee has been called on Friday regarding the restructuring. Initially, there was a plan to hold an in-person meeting in New Delhi, but at the last moment it was changed and a decision was made to hold a virtual meeting. Along with Putul, discussions are also underway about including two more people from Chattogram and Barishal divisions in the Presidium.

According to the party constitution, based on a decision of the council or the Central Executive Committee, the party president can nominate Presidium members. If Putul's nomination is not finalized at Friday's meeting, the Executive Committee may give Sheikh Hasina the power to decide. In that case, party leaders said the nomination may be finalized on 22 September after discussions with family members and senior leaders.

Meanwhile, several central leaders of the Awami League staying in various states of India have already reached Delhi. However, since not all members of the Central Committee are in India, the plan for an in-person meeting has been changed. A central leader also said that leaders have been instructed not to disclose detailed information about the party's activities in Delhi, considering various bilateral issues between Bangladesh and India.

Party leaders said that amid Sheikh Hasina's possible return to the country and the situation of facing legal proceedings, discussions are also ongoing about the Awami League's future leadership. In this context, they claimed that the matter of bringing Putul into active politics is gaining importance.
