The keys to a new house built in Ratnapur of Nabinagar in Brahmanbaria for Golapi Begum, who lived on the footpath in Shahbagh of the capital, have been handed over. On Friday (September 18) morning, the house keys were formally handed over to her.

At a ceremony held in Ratnapur village of Ratnapur Union, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister and adviser of ‘Amra BNP Family’ M Rashiduzzaman Millat handed over the keys to Golapi Begum on behalf of Prime Minister Tareq Rahman.

Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar) constituency Advocate Abdul Mannan presided over the ceremony. At that time, leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations, and leaders of ‘Amra BNP Family’, were present.

M Rashiduzzaman Millat said that while staying in London, Tareq Rahman learned about Golapi Begum's helplessness and physical illness. He then instructed ‘Amra BNP Family’ to arrange her treatment and accommodation.

The organization's member-secretary, agriculturist Moksedul Momin Mithun, said they are happy to be able to end Golapi Begum's long suffering and give her a safe address in her own area. At Tareq Rahman's instruction, steps were taken for her rehabilitation.

It is learned that in 2025, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the July mass uprising, at a rally of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the plight of Golapi Begum, who lived on the Shahbagh footpath, came to Tareq Rahman's attention. Later, steps were taken for her treatment and rehabilitation. Along with treatment for about eight months, accommodation was arranged for her in Dhaka. After that, a house was built in Ratnapur of Nabinagar for her permanent rehabilitation.
