We have come out with the demand of 180 million people: Jamaat Ameer
A roadside meeting was held at the Bhogra Bypass area in Gazipur on the occasion of the Dhaka-Rangpur Long March, organized by the 11-party alliance. At the meeting held on Saturday (September 19) morning, seven-point demands were raised, including implementation of the referendum verdict, trial of the July genocide, controlling commodity prices and improving the law and order situation.

In his speech as chief guest at the meeting, Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “We have not come out with any party demand; we have come out with the demands of 180 million people.”

He said the long march has been organized with various demands, including ensuring gas and uninterrupted electricity reach every household of the people and stopping extortion and corruption. He also said the movement will continue over these demands.

The seven-point demands of the 11-party alliance were raised from the roadside meeting. The demands are implementation of the public verdict of the referendum, trial of the July genocide, resolution of the electricity, oil, gas and fertilizer crisis, prevention of price hikes of daily necessities, improvement of the law and order situation, an end to narrow partisanship, and an end to corruption, extortion and land grabbing.

At the meeting, leaders warned of launching a one-point movement if the demands are not implemented. Later, the long march continued its journey toward Rangpur.

Gazipur Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Professor Jamal Uddin presided over and Metropolitan Secretary A S M Faruk conducted the roadside meeting, while Professor Mujibur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul MP, and central and local leaders of the 11-party alliance were present.
