Prime Minister's residence to run on solar power from October 1

He said this at a discussion meeting organized by the Local Government Engineering Department at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday (September 19).

The State Minister said that after the Prime Minister's residence, various government institutions including the Secretariat, National Parliament, and the Prime Minister's Office will gradually be brought under solar power. Work on installing solar panels at the Prime Minister's Office and the National Parliament has already begun.

He called on the relevant engineers to take prompt initiatives to increase the use of solar power in government institutions. The State Minister said he wants to see government main offices and rest houses also brought under solar power during district visits.

He said a set framework has been made for the cost of installing solar power and battery backup. A 20-year contract will be signed with the organizations installing solar power, and during this period they will provide maintenance services free of charge.

Mir Shah Alam further said that the relevant power distribution companies will arrange net metering free of cost. After meeting their own needs, government institutions will be able to supply surplus electricity to the national grid.

He also said the price of surplus electricity will be paid at Tk 10.50 per unit. This will reduce the electricity costs of government institutions as well as create an opportunity for the government to earn revenue by selling surplus electricity.
