On Saturday (September 19) noon, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Niaz Mehedi of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) provided this information.
He said DMP has arrested 179 people as of Saturday on charges of participating in a procession held in Gulshan.
Earlier, at noon on September 11, 150 to 200 people gathered in an alley next to KFC on Road No. 3 of Gulshan Police Station and held a flash procession. Police said when they went to disperse them, cocktails were thrown at police from the side of the marchers.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Daud Hossain of Gulshan Police Station said police fired two rounds of rubber bullets to disperse the marchers and bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, following the flash procession incident, OC Daud Hossain of Gulshan Model Police Station and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tanvir of Gulshan Division have been withdrawn from their posts.
