Four arrested in Opratim murder, confess to crime: Home Minister

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 20), the Home Minister said that Opratim's body was recovered within about 24 hours of his going missing. After that, the suspects were arrested within 12 hours. At first three people were arrested, and later another one was arrested.

Regarding the ages of the arrested persons, the Home Minister said that two are over 18 years of age and one may be under 18. However, everyone's national identity cards are being verified. He also said that many of them are 5 to 10 years older than Opratim, and that Opratim had friendship and regular interactions with them.

The Home Minister said the mobile phone that was with Opratim was recovered from the main suspect Tuhin. According to him, evidence related to the murder has been recovered, and the arrested persons have confessed to the incident. Police are now proceeding with the next legal process.

Praising the role of the police, Salahuddin Ahmed said the suspects were arrested and evidence was seized within a short time. Forensic analysis and autopsy procedures have also been completed.

He said that after completing the legal process, a charge sheet will be submitted soon. He also said the court will conduct the trial and the government will provide the necessary legal assistance.

Incidentally, on Friday (September 18), Opratim, a seventh-grade student of Border Guard Public School, left home with his mother's iPhone to take pictures with friends. After that, he did not return home. About 22 hours after he went missing, police recovered his body from the forest of Lalmai Hills in Sananda village next to Cumilla University. Opratim's mother, Nahida Begum, is an associate professor in the Bengali Department of Cumilla University.
