ICCCAD's MoU with Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock to Increase Climate Resilience

At an event held in the conference room of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Joint Secretary of the Ministry's International Organizations and Cooperation Division Baby Rani Karmakar and ICCCAD's Research and Policy Advisor Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

The event was presided over by Secretary of the Ministry Md. Delowar Hossain. He said climate change is a significant challenge for the fisheries and livestock sector. The MoU should not remain limited to formalities; rather, through implementation of activities under it, it must play an effective role in the development of the sector.

According to the MoU, ICCCAD will assist in enhancing the capacity of the Ministry, departments, and research institutions to address climate change. It will also provide support in utilizing opportunities for project formulation and financing from international funding agencies, including the Green Climate Fund.

In addition, technical assistance will be provided to mainstream climate change issues into the Ministry's policies, programs and activities, enhance institutional capacity, and strengthen participation in international forums and policy dialogues.

ICCCAD will also provide training and necessary support to enhance the skills of Ministry officials at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP). The Secretary expressed hope that the MoU would be implemented successfully through integrated efforts.

Those present at the event included Md. Mir Hossain of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation, Additional Secretary Nilufa Akter, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr. Md. Khaled Kanak, Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute Dr. Md. Latiful Islam, Chief of Planning and Evaluation Cell of the Department of Livestock Services Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, and Managing Director of ICCCAD Sakib Haq, among others concerned.
