According to bank data, from 1 to 20 September, 179,682 customers applied to withdraw a total of Tk 6,975 crore. Among them, 90,098 customers withdrew Tk 3,245 crore. That is, nearly half of the applicants have not yet withdrawn money.
At the same time, new deposits of about Tk 2,700 crore came into the bank. Of this, about Tk 378 crore was deposited in 32,074 new accounts.
Managing Director of the bank Md. Abedur Rahman Sikder said, along with returning customers' money, the flow of money into the bank is also continuing. Transactions in personal accounts are normal and will continue in the future as well.
Bangladesh Bank has provided Tk 5,000 crore in liquidity support to Sammilito Islami Bank to return the principal deposits of individual depositors. According to the instructions, individual depositors can withdraw money from current and savings accounts and the principal amount of term deposits. However, if a term deposit is fully withdrawn, it will be considered a final settlement and no profit will be given.
Exim Bank, Social Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Global Islami Bank and Union Bank have been merged to form Sammilito Islami Bank. These banks had total deposits of about Tk 1,42,000 crore from about 76 lakh depositors.
