Protest in Shyamnagar demanding justice for Mariam's death, effigy burned

On Monday (21 September) at 11:30 am, a procession was brought out from in front of the Upazila BNP office under the banner of 'Conscious Citizens Society'. Later, parading through various roads, the protesters took a position in front of the Upazila Press Club.

At the rally, speakers demanded an impartial investigation into the incident of Mariam's death to reveal the real facts and take legal action against those responsible. Later, they burned an effigy of Gazi Nazrul Islam there and chanted various slogans. At the same time, a demand was also made for a by-election in Satkhira-4 constituency.

It may be mentioned that on Sunday evening, police recovered the hanging body of Mariam Khatun from a flat of the Nam Building in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar of the capital. Later, her father Md. Masum Billah filed a case alleging incitement to suicide. Gazi Nazrul Islam, his first wife Maksuda Begum, and brother-in-law Obaidullah were made accused in the case. Police have arrested Gazi Nazrul Islam and his first wife.
