In Kunming, the matter was discussed during a courtesy meeting between newly appointed Consul General of Bangladesh Shahanaz Akhtar Ranu and Director General of the Yunnan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office Yang Shaocheng.

At the meeting, Shahanaz Akhtar Ranu expressed satisfaction over the progress in relations between the two regions and emphasized utilizing the potential for cooperation in new sectors. Yang Shaocheng said that last year bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Yunnan exceeded 1.3 billion yuan. He also expressed hope for further progress in trade this year.

The meeting also discussed the relocation of the chancery of the Bangladesh Consulate General in Kunming to the designated consular jurisdiction and increasing people-to-people contact between the two regions.

It may be mentioned that Shahanaz Akhtar Ranu took charge as Bangladesh's Consul General in Kunming on August 12.
