According to sources at the Upazila Engineer's Office, in June 2023, the contractor company ‘Ifti TCL’ of Bhandaria was given work orders for road renovation in two packages. Although the project work was supposed to be completed by April 2024, both the deadline and the work are currently suspended.

Locals said that although they felt relief when the renovation work started, after the contractor stopped the work and left, the suffering on the road increased further. Rainwater accumulating in the potholes and heavy trucks carrying bricks and wood are causing further damage to the road.

Md. Ziarul Islam, senior assistant engineer of Pirojpur LGED, said that until now Tk 1 crore 20 lakh has been paid as bills to the contractor company. However, after the change of government, the company stopped work, demanding nearly Tk 3 crore 50 lakh in overdue bills. As the project deadline has expired, efforts are being taken to complete the remaining work through a new tender.

Shahidul Islam, representative of the contractor company, said they have not yet received payment for the amount of work they have done. If the bills are paid, it will be possible to start work.

Local residents have demanded that the road be repaired quickly and made suitable for movement.
