The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Road Transport Ministry on Tuesday (September 22). Earlier, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) had recommended increasing fares by 20 paisa for long-distance buses and 18 paisa for city transport.

After fuel oil, bus fares rise again
Earlier, the government increased the prices of all types of fuel oil by Tk 20 per litre. The new prices took effect from September 21. As a result, the price of diesel rose from Tk 115 to Tk 135, kerosene from Tk 135 to Tk 155, petrol from Tk 140 to Tk 160, and octane from Tk 145 to Tk 165.
Since fuel oil prices increased, discussions on adjusting transport fares began. In April this year, after diesel prices were increased by Tk 15, bus fares were increased by 11 paisa per kilometer.

Under the latest fixed fares, bus fares in Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas were Tk 2.53 per kilometer, and minibus fares were Tk 2.42. For 52-seat long-distance buses, the fare was Tk 2.23. After this increase of 17 paisa, the relevant authorities will determine the new fare rates and implement them.
