Border road and polder rehabilitation work along the Naf River will be completed in the national interest: Water Resources Minister

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views meeting with local people and beneficiaries on the rehabilitation project of polders along the Naf River at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad auditorium in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.

The minister said the government is working for public welfare, including border security, flood control, and river dredging. After a technical survey and necessary scrutiny, the next course of action for the polders of the Naf River will be taken.

He said a huge amount of money has already been allocated for the border road and polder rehabilitation project. Even after revising the project and allocating additional funds at various times, it has not been effective as per the people's expectations. There are also questions about the justification of repeatedly revising a project and allocating additional funds.

The minister emphasized implementing the project taking into consideration agriculture, people's livelihoods, security, and the environment. He also said an initiative would be taken to resume work with the cooperation of local people.

Later, the minister and concerned officials inspected the embankment at Shahporir Dwip Westpara. At that time, they spoke with local residents and learned about the condition of the embankment, river erosion, and various problems.
