Boat races will revive rural Bengal's tradition and harmony: LGRD Minister

On Tuesday (22 September), he said this while speaking as chief guest at the ‘Traditional Boat Race 2026’ event held at Joshor Bazar in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi.

The minister said that along with the country's development, expansion of sports and cultural activities is needed for the physical and mental development of the young and working-age population. A healthy and disciplined nation can be built through sports.

He said that boat racing is a long-standing tradition of rural Bengal. Due to the changing times and various social complexities, the joy of such events has largely been lost. Traditional events like boat races will play a role in bringing back joy and mutual harmony among people.

He called upon everyone to play a role in moving the country forward toward a beautiful and normal way of life, free from political complexities and vindictiveness. At the same time, he spoke about the need to continue such events in the future.

With Narsingdi-3 constituency MP Manzur Elahi in the chair, Narsingdi-1 constituency MP Khairul Kabir Khokon inaugurated the boat race at the event. Later, the Local Government Minister inspected the boat race.
